The standard is to put in pulls that are 1/3 the size of the drawers, but I really wanted a more modern feel. The sizes I picked are approximately the half the size of the drawers. Just keep in mind, I think this works with slim shaker or the flat panel style. I don’t think it will look good with a standard shaker cabinets. In that case, stick to the 1/3 rule. When renovating the kids bathroom I wanted a vertical niche look, but I didn’t want the vertical niche with all the space wasted at the top, for this reason I decided to separate it right in the middle. My kids have an almost six year gap. Just like many siblings they sometimes get on each other’s nerves. My 11 year old preteen uses different products than my 5 year old and I just knew I had to give them their own designated space so one or the other doesn’t complain who is taking the most space in the niche (sibling reasons to fights lol). I know one of my kids will say, “eww your shampoo bottle is touching mine.” Regardless, this is a design idea to consider when sharing a bathroom with someone else. You each have your own designated space.

Not all white sinks are created equal!! There are so many made with different materials is what I learned when we started renovating our kitchen. I really wanted a white kitchen sink because I don’t like the look of stainless steel with a gold faucet. After EXTENSIVE research, I ultimately decided on a white fireclay sink. Here’s why:

1. They are stain resistant. Unlike other white sinks made from other materials, fireclay sinks don’t stain easily because they are not porous. I say, “most part” because for example, tomato sauce for hours in the sink can possibly stain it, but it is going to come out with the right products.

2. Since they are non-porous and smooth, they are also resistant to bacteria and germs. Big plus!!!

3. Fireclay is highly heat resistant – boiling water, hot pots and pans can be placed straight into the cold sink with no fear of cracking or damage.

4. It’s hard to break or nick a fireclay sink.

5. They can withstand harsh chemicals. I like to bleach inside my sink after I’ve handled meats, especially chicken.

They are overall very easy to maintain and that’s a win in my book.

This spacing combo gives the perfect balance between function + styling space. Also, the 20” on the bottom gives plenty of space if this area becomes a coffee bar.
